The World Health Organization declared Congo’s Ebola outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern as the virus spread in active conflict zones.
“This outbreak represents an extraordinary event that constitutes a public health risk to other countries.”
The outbreak was complicated by ongoing conflict, making vaccination and treatment efforts extremely dangerous.
