US Energy Secretary Chris Wright told ABC News a nuclear agreement with Iran may not be reached and Washington could keep degrading Tehran's nuclear weapons capacity, possibly waiting for a future Iranian government. Wright said US strikes have already sharply reduced that capacity and argued the naval blockade of Iranian ports would either change the regime or change its policy. He also said a seven-day average of just over 9 million barrels of oil a day was moving through the Strait of Hormuz, with total regional outflows including pipelines around 13 to 14 million barrels a day.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said US oil and gas companies in the Middle East are legitimate targets after Washington threatened to destroy Iranian tankers, Al Jazeera reported. The warning came as Iran and the United States traded retaliatory strikes on ships around the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran will declare a restricted zone near the Strait of Hormuz and announce a new shipping route agreed with Oman "in the coming days," Al Jazeera reported. The statement came after US strikes that disabled or sank Iranian oil tankers and Iranian warnings of heavier responses to further attacks.
