Norwegian PM: Zelensky plane nearly hit by drone leaving Moldova

Two killed at Ukraine-Moldova border as both sides trade drone strikes

President Zelensky said Russian drones hit the Starokozache border crossing with Moldova, killing two people and prompting the crossing to close. Officials also reported a woman killed and 14 injured in a Kyiv apartment strike, and three dead after a drone hit a shopping centre in Sumy. Russia said four people, including a child, were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on Novorossiysk, while Ukrainian forces said they struck the Novourengoysky ZPKT oil facility more than 3,000 km from the border.

BBC Verify: Russia used jet-powered Geran drones daily in August

BBC Verify analysis of Ukrainian Air Force data found Russia fired upgraded jet-powered Geran drones against Ukraine every day in August, the first month of continuous daily use in those figures. Ukraine says jet-drone attacks rose from about 350 in June to 1,600 in July and 2,800 in August. The newer models can cruise above 300 mph, faster than many of Kyiv's interceptors, and some engines are assessed by Ukrainian military intelligence as sourced from China.
